  • Serious Concerns: Zack Wheeler is sidelined indefinitely with a blood clot
    Aug 17 2025

Everybody understands Zack Wheeler’s importance to the Phillies.

He is one of the best pitchers in baseball, a perennial NL Cy Young candidate and, statistically, one of the best pitchers in postseason history. It was a shock on Saturday night to learn that Wheeler has been sidelined indefinitely because of a blood clot near his right shoulder. This is a health issue immensely more important than baseball, but it is a tremendous loss to the team.

We discuss Wheeler’s health, and what it might mean for the Phillies moving forward. We also discuss Alec Bohm’s return to the lineup, Nick Castellanos’ big day and a bizarre “controversy” surrounding Jhoan Duran’s appearance in a non-save situation on Friday.
