About this listen
This podcast discusses colorism within the Black community in the United States. Colorism, coined and defined by Alice Walker, is the prejudicial or preferential treatment of same-raced people based solely on the color of their skin. Colorism, as a byproduct of racism, operates to reinforce the skin color hierarchy wherein lighter skin is favored or privileged and darker skin is disadvantaged or dehumanized within the Black American community and around the world.
