  • Nebraska Weather 3/9 Morning - 25° Above Normal
    Mar 9 2026
Good morning. Nebraska. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside and you'll feel like someone cranked the calendar forward two months. We're talking 70s statewide today — the kind of warmth that makes you question if winter ever happened. Eastern Nebraska hits 75 degrees. That's 25 degrees above normal for early March. Southeast Nebraska pushes to 78. Western Nebraska? You top out near 79, flirting with the 1989 record of 80. But here's the catch. That heat comes with bone-dry air and west winds gusting to 25 miles an hour. Red Flag Warnings blanket much of western Nebraska through 8 P.M. Any spark becomes a wildfire today. No burning. Period. Tonight's when things get wild. A cold front crashes south late this evening. And temperatures nosedive. Eastern Nebraska falls to 43 overnight. Southeast drops to 44. But western Nebraska? You plunge from 79 this afternoon to 30 by Tuesday morning. That's a 49-degree crash in less than 12 hours. Your thermostat might file a complaint. Tuesday stays cooler — highs in the 50s and 60s. Clouds build. And by Tuesday night, rain arrives. Northern areas could see a mix of rain and snow after midnight. Accumulations stay light where snow sticks. Wednesday brings partly sunny skies and low 50s, but winds stay gusty and humidity drops again. Fire concerns return. Thursday? We're back to the 70s with extreme fire danger. Strong west winds and near-record heat make for a dangerous combination. Enjoy today's warmth, but stay alert. If you're outdoors, keep an eye on conditions. See you this afternoon.

  • Nebraska Weather 3/8 Midday - 30° Above Normal
    Mar 8 2026
Good afternoon. Nebraska. I'm Matt Mullins. Step outside right now and you'll think you time-traveled straight to May. We're sitting at 57 degrees. And that's just the warm-up act. Sunshine floods the entire state today with temperatures soaring 20 to 30 degrees above normal. Eastern Nebraska hits 72 by late afternoon. Southeast Nebraska pushes even warmer to 74. Out west you'll reach 71, but the wind picks up there — gusts to 30 miles an hour. Southwest winds gust to 22 statewide. Tonight stays mild under clear skies. Lows only drop to the mid-30s out west and mid-40s east. Some spots actually warm up overnight as those southwest winds keep pumping. Monday cranks the heat even higher. Highs climb to 75 in the east, 77 in the southeast and west. Light winds early turn breezy by afternoon. But here's the catch — fire weather concerns escalate across western Nebraska. A Fire Weather Watch is in effect. Near-record heat, low humidity. And gusty winds create dangerous conditions for any fire starts. Tuesday brings a sharp cooldown as a cold front sweeps through. Highs tumble to the mid-60s with increasing clouds. Rain arrives Tuesday night, especially across northern Nebraska and the Sandhills. Some areas could see a rain-snow mix overnight into Wednesday morning. Wednesday turns blustery and cooler with highs only in the 50s. Another warmup Thursday pushes temperatures back into the upper 60s to low 70s, but that brings renewed fire weather concerns. Friday cools back to the 50s with partly sunny skies. One more thing — clocks spring forward one hour tonight. We're gaining nearly 3 minutes of daylight today, with the spring equinox just 12 days away. See you this evening.
