Everything is an oscillation, but even in the vacuum of space where there is nothing, there is still oscillations and the effect of it. So it's like, they get rid of the term ether, but then they're like, okay, but then there's also dark matter. Okay, maybe for your equation, dark matter fits better, but its the same thing.
