A veteran of the New York jazz scene for more than 20 years, Tomoko has a fascinating story to tell of living the life of a professional musician in the jazz capital of the world.

Originally from Japan, Tomoko made the decision early in her life to move to the USA to study and play jazz. This conversation covers a wide range of topics including self-education, improvisation, the composition process, earning a living in jazz and beyond.

For the collaboration on this episode, Tomoko chose the famous Charlie Parker tune Ornithology on which she played 5-string violin in combination with the jazz guitar of Brian Hayes.
