  • Why Money is Emotional (Not Math) & How to Stop Fighting About It w/ Dennis Harhalakis
    Jan 1 2026

On today's show, we sit down with Dennis Harhalakis, a Certified Money Coach and founder of Cambridge Money Coaching. After 30 years in corporate financial services, Dennis realized that while he knew everything about the math of money, he knew very little about the behavior behind it.

In this episode, we dive deep into why money is the #1 source of conflict for couples. Dennis explains that we aren't actually fighting about dollars and cents; we are fighting about values, safety, and childhood programming. We discuss how to move from judgment to curiosity, why "connection must come before solution," and the three specific pillars that make up your relationship with money.

If you have ever felt shame around your finances or struggle to communicate with your spouse about the budget, this episode will give you the compassion and tools you need to heal that relationship.

    Key Takeaways-

✅ Money is a Story: A $100 bill is just paper; the value is a narrative. Similarly, your financial life is driven by the stories and beliefs you inherited from your parents.

✅ The Couples Trap: Arguments usually stem from one partner seeking Safety (Saving) and the other seeking Pleasure/Life (Spending). Both are valid psychological needs.

✅ Connection Before Solution: You cannot fix a budget problem until you understand the emotional need behind your partner's behavior.

✅ The 3 Parts of Money: Your relationship with money is actually: 1) What you believe about yourself, 2) What you believe about money, and 3) What you believe about money in yourself.

✅ The Tennis Analogy: If you want to get better at tennis, you hire a coach. Money is the one tool we use every day, yet we rarely seek coaching for the behavioral side of it.

Question for you: Be honest: When you think about your childhood, what is the main "money message" you received from your parents? (e.g., "Money is scarce," or "Don't talk about money"). Let us know in the comments!

We dive deep into a topic that many couples struggle with but rarely discuss: Apologies. Did you know that just like love languages, we all have specific "Apology Languages"? Dr. Chapman breaks down why simply saying "I'm sorry" often isn't enough and shares the 5 specific ways people need to hear an apology to truly forgive.

We also discuss the power of unconditional love, how to navigate conflict without destroying your marriage, and Dr. Chapman’s incredible new book, The Most Important Love Language. ✅ The 5 Apology Languages: A breakdown of the five distinct ways to apologize effectively (Expressing Regret, Accepting Responsibility, Making Restitution, Genuinely Repenting, and Requesting Forgiveness).

✅ Influence vs. Control: How to positively influence a spouse who refuses to go to counseling or read relationship books.

  • How To Unlock Creativity in Kids with Amanda Cleary
    Dec 4 2025

We dive deep into the challenges parents face when finding quality books for their children and how to encourage a love for story—even if your child isn't a "natural" reader. Amanda shares her unique insights on writing the Tree Street Kids series, the nostalgia of the 90s, and why Christian fiction shouldn't feel like a "clown car" of forced lessons.

We also tackle the hot topic of Artificial Intelligence. Is AI killing creativity? How is it affecting our children's attention spans and ability to process deep stories? Amanda offers a thoughtful perspective on the importance of "souled" art versus soulless generation.

    Key Takeaways:

✔️ Recognizing Different Readers: Why audiobooks and film analysis count as loving "story" just as much as reading text.

✔️ The "Clown Car" Analogy: How to write and find books that have Biblical values without shoving messages in forcefully.

✔️ Overcoming Blocks: Practical advice for writers and creatives on getting "unstuck" (including the science of napping!).

✔️ Navigating AI: The dangers of AI in the creative space and why the "suffering artist" is necessary for true art.

✔️ Resources for Parents: Specific websites and tips for finding safe, high-quality books for your family.

Question of the Day: How do you handle screen time vs. story time in your house? Do you have a reluctant reader you are trying to encourage? Let us know in the comments below! 👇
