EP. 82 GETTING COMFORTABLE WITH BEING UNCOMFORTABLE WITH DR. STAN BEECHAM “It isn’t luck that determines your success. It’s expectation.“ On today’s show we’re speaking with Dr. Stan Beecham. Dr. Stan is a sport psychology consultant and director and founding member of the Leadership Resource Center in Atlanta, Georgia. His breakthrough work with collegiate, Olympic, and professional athletes from many sports has afforded him an insight into the minds of great competitors that only few have had the good fortune to gain. And isn’t that so true. The most fundamental difference between people who are deeply fulfilled and those that are miserable or regretful, is that their life conditions matched their expectations of themselves. Yet as our world seems to move with more pace, more urgency, more demands and more choice than ever before, it’s not easy to make the tough decisions to make big changes to get in more alignment. So coming back to that greatest regret…it’s not that I just lived life true to myself…it’s specifically “I wish I had the COURAGE to live a life true to myself” “The impossible is done by those who are willing to risk it all. Those who risk the most achieve the most.“ “The truth may hurt but it never harms.“ What we cover in this episode: The two beliefs that create everythingThe message we get for always trying to be betterThe problem with perfectionHow the first 7 years of life impact the rest of our lifeThe one belief that causes us to sufferThe two responses to failure (one helps, one doesn’t)How to train your mind for greater focusThe power of getting honest, truthful feedbackHow curiosity leads to greater growth, learning and knowledge How to connect: Dr. Stan Beecham’s WebsiteBook: Elite Minds – How winners think differently to create a competitive edge and maximize success Leave us a message! • EP79 – Everything You’ve Been Told About Food Is Wrong With Dr. Tim Spector
    Feb 9 2021
EP. 79 EVERYTHING YOU’VE BEEN TOLD ABOUT FOOD IS WRONG WITH DR. TIM SPECTOR I don’t have any scientific evidence to back this up, but I have a lot of confidence that the number one new year’s resolution or goal that people claim is related to health, wellness, eating better and feeling better. I mean, isn’t that what we ultimately all want? But with the pace of our modern world, the rise of stress and uncertainty and the confusion of what is good or bad for you, it’s really hard to know how to properly and effectively follow an approach that produces results. “Much of the food research is outdated, flawed and wrong” Sometimes it’s not just about knowing what you should do, but it’s also about what you shouldn’t. More accurately, within that, sometimes you need to unlearn what you think is the right way, you need to dispel some myths and update your knowledge of what is true. And so I’m excited to bring you a very special guest today, Dr. Tim Spector. Not only is Tim deeply trained in medical science, he’s also a prolific writer with several popular science books, best-selling consumer books and a regular blog, focusing on genetics, epigeneticS and most recently microbiome and diet. If there is one thing that unites all of Tim’s work, it would be the truth. Prepare to challenge some of your beliefs and with Tim’s help, you’ll be guided to unlearn and relearn how to live with optimal health and vitality. Enjoy the conversation… “Correlation does not mean causation.” There is no one right way to eat that works for everyone” What we cover in this episode: The 3 major obstacles to a clear understanding of foodWhat Tim would say to the top 10 food companiesThe myth of “calories in, calories out” that rules the diet industryHow you can’t trust food labels to educate youThe controversy about supplements and what to do about itWhy there is mixed messages around processed foodsHow the future lies in personalized nutritionThe role of technology and AI in supporting your wellbeingThe Holy Triad of gut health, blood sugar and blood fat How to connect: Dr. Tim Spector’s TwitterDr. Tim Spector’s WebsiteDr. Tim Spector’s InstagramJoin Zoe Leave us a message! Do you have a dream or goal that you’ve always wanted but have yet to put any meaningful effort into making it a reality?

How do you feel about that?

In the After Show episodes, Chris and Sarah dissect their takeaways from the inspiring interviews, discuss how they are applying the wisdom in their own lives and how these topics have affected their journey on a more personal level. Listen in for candid opinions, personal anecdotes and a dynamic interactions between husband & wife. In this episode, Chris and Sarah discuss their learnings and ‘aha’ moments from Chris’ amazing conversation in Episode 76: What Our Youth Need Most In The 21st Century. Jean is the Frank L. Boyden Professor of Psychology and Director of the Center for Evidence-Based Mentoring at the University of Massachusetts Boston, co-founder of both the European and Asian Centers for Evidence-Based Mentoring, and a Fellow of the American Psychological Association. Her research inspired Big Brothers Big Sisters to redefine their “one-size-fits-all” approach for a more effective model that focuses less on building friendships and more on building skills via a combination of in-person interactions and mental health apps usage. In her new book OLDER AND WISER: New Ideas for Youth Mentoring in the 21st Century (Harvard University Press; 8/18/2020) Jean argues that now is the time for mentoring programs, using a combination of volunteers, mental health apps and educational platforms, to revamp their strategies to harness the unrealized potential of their millions of volunteers and staunch these educational and mental health losses. • EP76 – What Our Youth Need Most In The 21st Century With Jean Rhodes
    Jan 26 2021
EP. 76 WHAT OUR YOUTH NEED MOST IN THE 21ST CENTURY WITH JEAN RHODES When I look back on my journey of conscious development — where I started to understand the world, my role, the possibilities — there’s no doubt that it started as a teenager. Something was sparked in me to explore my potential, to see what I was made of and to learn how to push the boundaries of what I thought were my limitations. Knowing what I know now, I feel very lucky and blessed to have discovered this thirst for self-education very early, and I know not everyone has taken that same path. “Supportive accountability is vital for success.” We all are shaped by life experiences. Mostly profoundly and lasting by our immediate family, specifically our parents or whomever the primary guardian was for us growing up. We learn a lot by watching and as my 16 month old son continues to remind me, kids are watching and imitating EVERYTHING! We teach them what is acceptable — good or bad — in every facet of life. But of course, parents and family aren’t the only influence and shaper of lives. Teachers, coaches, community leaders are always planting seeds of right and wrong, possible or not, opportunities and dangers. When you think back to your youth, who was a mentor for you? What life lessons, skills and perspectives did they give you that continues to influence you today? I’m delighted to bring you today’s conversation with the world’s foremost authority on youth mentoring, Jean Rhodes. Her previous book, Stand by Me, transformed the field by insisting on rigorous evaluation of mentoring programs and increased training and her latest book lays out an ambitious, practical, and urgent plan for reform that focuses on what young people really need in the 21st century, especially in a realities of a Covid-19 pandemic world. Enjoy the conversation… “One important relationship with an adult makes all the difference.” “Most youth don’t realize you just need to ask.” What we cover in this episode: How Covid-19 has added challenges to youth mental healthThe vital role of one important adult relationshipWhat mentoring is and why it’s so importantThe power of “Supportive Accountability”What it takes to be a great mentorWhy we need to teach kids how to ask for help How to connect: Book: Older & WiserNewsletter: The Chronicle of Evidence-Based MentoringLinkedin Leave us a message! Jan 19 2021

    EP. 75 STOP TOLERATING MEDIOCRITY

Never surrender to the momentum of mediocrity“ – Marlon Brando

One of the BIG lessons I’ve learned over the years is that we can be very, very good at convincing ourselves that things are “OK”.

But if we took an honest look in the mirror, and got honest with how we really feel, OK is not OK.

We’re not experiencing the level of happiness, success, fulfillment or growth we want. Our health, relationships, finances are not where they need to be.

Yet we are stuck. Stagnant. Stifled.

In this episode Chris talks about breaking out of stuckness and getting out of “Dead Man Zone”.
