This week we're taking a light-hearted look at teeth.
This isn't about any poor, unfortnutate souls who are tormented by their #choppers (a pain I know all too well), this is about how our teeth became the essential bit of kit they are.
How come we have #wisdomteeth? In most cases, they're the teeth that turn up long after all of the others and wreck everything. And why are they called wisdom teeth? And why is it such an ordeal to have them removed?
Come to think of it, how were they removed before dentists even existed? How were any teeth removed? For those of you thinking; "sure, they just tied a bit of string around the tooth and then around a door knob and slammed the door", what about when there were no doors? Y'know, when our ancestors lived in caves or lived the subsistence life of hunter/gatherers.
What was a trip to the dentist like in the 19th century? Or the 18th century? What about the 16th, 10th, 5th or earlier? What was it like in 12000bce?
