Scott Adams, the creator of Dilbert, stepped into eternity last week and a letter was shared saying that he had given his life to Christ just prior to his passing. What makes this moment so striking isn't just the confession itself, but the way he framed it. In the letter it seemed he wasn't entirely convinced in the traditional sense. Instead, he described his decision more like a Pascalian wager, a calculated choice made in the face of uncertainty, suffering and mortality that raises some uncomfortable and fascinating questions. Is faith still faith if it merely begins with a wager? Can belief be genuine, even if doubt never fully leaves? And what do we make of so-called deathbed conversions?
