Dickie Groenteman’s childhood was one of blissful innocence. Dickie’s father Elias was a successful businessman, his mother Rosetta a skilled dressmaker and his big sister Betty showered him with love. It was a beautiful life for the Groentemans and for Dickie looked like it would only get better.

An ice hockey prodigy, the future was bright - and then came the invasion.
