I heard a quote from a visiting preacher once that went…

“God doesn’t want you to send him a thank you note. He wants you to be the thank you note!” ~ Mark Roberts

There’s nothing wrong with sending thank you notes. It’s a kind and thoughtful gesture and it does convey thanks for whatever the occasion.

However, we are called to live lives separate, holy, sanctified, and transformed. Live the thanks you give!

So, what are ways you can live a life where you are the thank you note? …

1 - I think we need to eliminate complaints.

2 - Find peace in the day to day

3 - Let your actions show gratitude

Lastly - recognize that you don’t have it in you to direct your own steps and that you need God.

I came home from the office through the garage as usual. As I entered the house, I could hear Joe speaking to Selma. My Father and Mother-in-law lived in the Master bedroom of our home at the end of the hall from the garage. By this time Selma had become bedfast due to progressing illness, her strength waning and pain becoming unremitting from degenerative bone disease. Joe was just finishing the segment of Philippians 4 stating, “for I have learned in whatever situation I am to be content.” As he spoke that phrase in his baritone confident and peaceful voice, he asked, “can you do that dear?’ Selma responded through the pain of debilitating illness in her weak fluttering south Texas drawl, “I’ll do the best I can.”

Being content with how the current situation progressed was his solution for the extreme duress of that moment.

There are two types of unprofitable servants described in the gospel accounts:

The type who is described by the Parable of the Talents:

Matthew 25:14-30 - unprofitable has to do with earning, gaining or building something you were meant to help grow

The type who is described by the Luke regarding Faith and Duty:

Luke 17:5-10 - unprofitable has to do with expectation, seeking credit or recognition or personal gain

We are supposed to be Profitably unprofitable servants. HOW ABOUT THAT PARADOX FOR YOU?!
