In Episode 14 of The BoM Podcast, we revisit one of Bollywood’s most disturbing and impactful crime thrillers — Murder 2 (2011), directed by Mohit Suri and starring Emraan Hashmi, Jacqueline Fernandez, and Prashant Narayanan.

We have an honest conversation about the film’s performances — including how Emraan Hashmi’s role feels less layered and more like an extension of the persona and formula that was already working for him during that era, rather than a transformative performance. We also discuss how Jacqueline Fernandez’s character is unfortunately underserved by the writing, often positioned more as a visual presence than a fully developed character, which reflects a larger pattern in Bollywood thrillers of the time.

The real standout remains Prashant Narayanan’s terrifying performance, which still stands as one of the most unsettling villain portrayals in Hindi cinema. His role pushed the boundaries of what mainstream Bollywood was willing to show and helped usher in a darker phase of Hindi thrillers.

We also reflect on how watching Murder 2 at ages 15–16 ignited our craving for darker, more disturbing thrillers and shifted our expectations of what Bollywood could be.

In this episode, we dive into:
🎭 The formula-driven era of Emraan Hashmi thrillers
😈 Why Prashant Narayanan’s antagonist still feels genuinely disturbing
    🎬 Mohit Suri’s grim, no-holds-barred direction
🎶 The haunting soundtrack and its emotional contrast
🧠 How Murder 2 influenced a generation of darker Bollywood storytelling

✨ A raw, honest revisit of a film that changed our relationship with Bollywood thrillers.

In this episode of The BoM Podcast, we revisit one of Bollywood’s most iconic family dramas, Kabhi Khushi Kabhie Gham, alongside our special guest and close friend Raj Dhamal, a fellow cinephile who handpicked this film for our revisit.

We explore what K3G meant to audiences when it released in 2001 — and how its impact differed for NRIs like Aishan, who grew up connecting to Indian culture through films abroad, versus Indians raised in India like Bhumi and Raj, who experienced its melodrama and grandeur first-hand.

From Karan Johar’s lavish sets, unforgettable music, and iconic performances by Amitabh Bachchan, Jaya Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Kajol, Hrithik Roshan, and Kareena Kapoor (as the unforgettable Poo), to the film’s emotional core — “It’s all about loving your parents” — we break down whether the movie still holds up two decades later.

✨ Join us as we debate the legacy of K3G, the memes, the nostalgia, and whether it deserves its cult-classic status in today’s Bollywood landscape.

    Sep 10 2025

    Send us a text

In Episode 7 of The BoM Podcast, we review two of Bollywood’s latest releases – Param Sundari and Baaghi 4.

✨ First up, Param Sundari starring Siddharth Malhotra and Janhvi Kapoor. While it set out to be a fresh rom-com, the film feels like a recycled mix of Chennai Express, 2 States, and even DDLJ—without the same magic.

🔥 Then, we move to Baaghi 4 – the dreaded fourth installment of an already stretched franchise. With Tiger Shroff’s action, Sanjay Dutt as the villain, Harnaaz Kaur Sandhu’s debut, and Sonam Bajwa & Shreyas Talpade in wasted roles, the film had potential but ended up as another forgettable sequel.

Join us as we break down what went wrong, how Bollywood rom-coms and franchises keep repeating old formulas, and what needs to change.
