In our final segment for the 2025 Native American Heritage Month, we explore the Marian Apparition of The Virgin of Urkupiña, in Bolivia. This is yet another legend surrounding the Virgin Mary appearing to an Indigenous girl, which subsequently inspired many rituals, ceremonies and pilgrimages.

We will explore the unique history between this Madonna and Our Lady of Guadalupe in terms of establishing the dignity of Native Peoples in the Americas. While she is very well known in Mexico, our hope is that Our Lady of Ocotlán can be more familiar to those outside of the beautiful nation of Mexico.
