    We usually hear a lot about Mary, mother of Jesus, which is perfectly right, because she did an incredible thing. But we don't tend to hear as much about her relative, Elizabeth, who had such an amazing testimony as well. Elizabeth was past childbearing age, and had no expectation of having a child. And for so many at the time, being able to bear children was a sign of God's favor. So even though Elizabeth seemed to do all the right things, she did not bear children, and this must have been so painful.

    Today we're continuing the story we started yesterday: in the time when the Israelites were enslaved in Egypt. After Shiphrah and Puah, the Hebrew midwives, courageously deceived the Pharaoh of Egypt, who had ordered them to kill Israelite baby boys, Pharaoh commands the people to throw baby boys into the Nile. That's where we pick up - with this order over the oppressed Israelite women... Introducing Jochebed and Bithiah.
