    Autosport's Editor-In-Chief Kevin Turner recently had the privledge of conducting interviews at Super Touring Power 3, the yearly tribute to the "Super Touring Era" of the British Touring Car Championship in the 1990's. In this episode of the Autosport National Podcast, here's one of those interviews as Kevin sat down with Super Touring Veteran and historic racer Patrick Watts, and 2022 BTCC Champion, Tom Ingram.

    Tom goes into detail about his first time experiencing the event; and the differences between the Touring Cars of then and now, while Patrick talks at length about how specialised the era was, and just how much it would set you back for a full rebuild on a 90's Super Touring Car. The numbers are eye-watering!

    The trio discuss Spa and how Jonny took that 20th win, the merits of amateurs being involved in British GT, what Jonny hopes the future of the series looks like, and his open aspirations in the future, including the possibility of a return to the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

  • Ben Taylor on Thruxton's Revamped "Superfunk"

    Thruxton is the focus of the latest Autosport National Podcast with a review of last weekend's Thruxton Retro event and a look at other developments at the Hampshire speedbowl.

    Group National Editor Stephen Lickorish is joined by Ben Taylor, chief executive of the British Automobile Racing Club that operates Thruxton, to discuss the thinking being the revamped historic racing festival and its 'superfunk' title.

    It attracted some impressive grids (https://www.autosport.com/national/news/porritt-tigers-to-rindt-trophy-victory-at-thruxton-retro/10735495/) and there was a brilliant atmosphere with a host of off-track activities providing entertainment for the whole family.

    The new Woodham Hill vantage point is also analysed, with Taylor explaining where the idea first came from.

    Incredibly, British GT reaches the mid-point of its 2025 season at Spa this weekend and that's the focus of the latest Autosport National Podcast.

    Chief Editor Kevin Turner is joined by British GT correspondent Ed Hardy and Group National Editor Stephen Lickorish to look at the key themes from the campaign so far, including how 2 Seas has usurped Barwell as the top squad in GT3.

    GT4 is also examined with the dominant position of the Optimum crew of Jack Brown and Marc Warren discussed, while there's an analysis of how the calendar switch to move Oulton Park's round to later in the year played out.

    Speaking of Oulton, the British Touring Car support series' trips to Cheshire are also previewed as is the revamped Thruxton Retro event.

    This weekend is another busy one in UK motorsport and we preview three of the many events taking place on the latest edition of the Autosport National Podcast.
    Chief Editor Kevin Turner is joined by Group National Editor Stephen Lickorish to discuss some of the possible highlights, including a new vantage point at Thruxton for when the British Touring Car Championship and its support series descend on Hampshire.

    Meanwhile, at Brands Hatch there will be a strong US theme with the 12th edition of American SpeedFest. This is headlined by Euro NASCAR but there is due to be plenty more happening besides.

    Over at Silverstone, a massive Equipe Classic Racing event is scheduled - which has attracted 400 entries. A special Austin-Healey race and a rejuvenated Equipe 70s series are on the bill.

  • Report: The Tragic Passings Of Dai Roberts and Julian Grimwade
    May 27 2025
    Motorsport in the UK suffered a double tragedy on Saturday May 24 when two competitors died in very different disciplines of the sport within the space of three hours.

    Leading rally co-driver Dai Roberts died in an accident on the Jim Clark Rally when the Hyundai i20N Rally2 he was sharing with James Williams crashed. Less than three hours later, Vintage Sports-Car Club racer Julian Grimwade lost his life when his 1913 Romano Special crashed on the opening lap of a race at Donington Park.

    Both competitors were popular members of their motorsport communities and Chief Editor Kevin Turner is joined by Paul Lawrence in this week’s sombre podcast to talk about the two passionate enthusiasts.
