  • Alabama Weather 3/10 Morning - Unseasonably Warm
    Mar 10 2026
Good morning. Alabama. I'm Michael Mosby. After last night's soaking rain, you're waking up to muggy 60s and patchy fog along the coast. That fog should lift by mid-morning, giving way to a warm, cloudy day statewide. Temperature-wise. The sun's taking a backseat today behind those clouds, but southerly winds will push temperatures into the low 80s anyway. Birmingham climbs to 82 degrees, montgomery and Mobile both hit 80. Even up in Huntsville. Here comes 79 degrees — unseasonably warm for early March. As the sun sets. Northern Alabama sees a few lingering showers this morning, but those fade by lunchtime. The rest of the state stays dry through the day, tonight drops back to the mid 60s statewide under mostly cloudy skies. Wednesday looks similar — mostly cloudy, warm. And humid. Highs reach the low 80s again across Central and Southern Alabama, with Northern Alabama in the upper 70s. But this warmth is setting the stage for what comes next. Late Wednesday night into Thursday morning, a strong cold front barrels through, a line of thunderstorms develops ahead of it. And some could turn severe. Damaging wind gusts are the main threat, but large hail and a few tornadoes can't be ruled out. Heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding, especially after yesterday's rain, the storms clear by Thursday afternoon. Thursday brings a dramatic shift. Temperatures crash to the upper 50s — 39 degrees colder than Wednesday. Friday morning could see patchy frost in Northern Alabama with lows in the upper 30s. The weekend rebounds nicely. Saturday and Sunday warm back into the 70s with sunshine returning. Charge your phones and fill up the gas tank before Wednesday night. Looking ahead. See you this afternoon.

  • Alabama Weather 3/9 Morning - 40° Above Normal
    Mar 9 2026
Good morning. Alabama. I'm Michael Mosby. Step outside right now and you're walking straight into a wall of fog. Dense fog is blanketing the state this morning, cutting visibility down to a quarter mile or less in spots. Give yourself extra time if you're heading out. It should lift by 10 A.M., but until then, slow down and keep your headlights on. Once that fog clears, temperatures climb into the upper 70s to low 80s statewide — unseasonably warm for early March. Mobile hits 80 degrees. Birmingham reaches 77. Up in Huntsville, 76. But don't get too comfortable with that warmth, because the real story kicks in this afternoon. Thunderstorms fire up across central and northern Alabama between 2 and 7 P.M. These aren't your average spring showers. We're talking strong to severe storms with damaging wind gusts and large hail, potentially up to two inches in diameter. That's golf ball sized hail that'll dent your car. The coast stays quieter with just a slight chance of rain, but inland counties need to stay alert. Have multiple ways to receive warnings this afternoon. Tonight, scattered showers linger with lows in the low 60s — mild and muggy. Here's your week ahead. Tuesday brings a break with partly sunny skies and highs jumping into the low 80s — 40 degrees above normal. Wednesday stays warm near 80, but another round of severe weather arrives Wednesday night into Thursday morning. That system brings damaging winds, heavy rain. And possibly a few tornadoes. Then the bottom drops out. Thursday's high? Only 58 to 69 degrees — a shocking 40 degrees plunge from the day before. Friday morning could see patchy frost with lows in the upper 30s to low 40s. The weekend rebounds nicely with sunshine and highs back in the 70s. If you're liking these daily updates, a quick rating goes a long way. See you this afternoon.
