About this listen

I’m Alexis, a growth-obsessed magical black girl and self-help junkie with the gift of gab. As a former middle school English teacher, I’ve endured the burnout, bureaucracy, and all that comes with the teaching profession. Now, I’m here to empower you to step into the most confident, conscious, and authentic version of yourself inside and outside the classroom.
Whether you’re a current teacher, former teacher, or a teacher curious about the possibilities, this podcast is about our/a shared journey of becoming. So, get ready to ditch perfectionism, celebrate progress, and find joy in the journey.Copyright Alexis Shepard

  • Ep. 42 - What To Do When You Have Sunday Scaries (with Kelsey Sorenson)
    Jun 13 2023
On this episode, I chat with Kelsey Sorenson, creator of Wife Teacher Mommy, about the dreaded Sunday-Scaries. Yup, we’re addressing those pesky, draining feelings that sometimes overtake our weekend as we think, with impending dread, about the week that’s coming. Together, Kelsey and I talk about what triggers the Sunday Scaries, what they mean, and how we can take small actions that make a huge impact in managing the anxiety, overwhelm, and dread that some educators experience on Sunday afternoons. In our conversation, Kelsey doesn’t propose solutions to get rid of the feelings, rather, she reframes Sunday Scaries as an opportunity to listen, learn, and act based on your mental, emotional, and physical reactions.

  • Ep. 41 - Myths About Former Teacher Life EXPOSED
    May 23 2023
In this episode, I’ll be pulling back the curtain on and addressing the myths and assumptions around the realities of being a former teacher. As a former teacher, I have had personal experiences with and witnessed these myths. I feel that it’s important to dispel and challenge the narratives to foster a greater understanding of the choices made by former teachers. Whether you're an educator contemplating a career change, a former teacher seeking validation, or simply curious about the stories/perspective behind those who have left the teaching profession, my hope is that this episode will expand your perspective for the multifaceted journeys of former teachers.
