  • Ep. 22 - Radium Girls and The Greatest Beer Run of All Time
    Apr 21 2025

"Trust me"......This can either be a phrase to gain collaboration or used by manipulative people and corporations to deceive.

Unfortunately, those words proved fatal for dozens of people in New Jersey when they were hired to paint watch faces with radium, a highly toxic compound that made the face glow in the dark - although each was assured that it was 100% safe. Oh, and by the way, it was a requirement to use their lips to make the tips of the brushes pointy for greater precision. It didn't take long for the negative effects of radium poisoning to rear its ugly head. Women would stop menstruating, jaw were detaching and simple dental procedures would never heal. This wasn't the type of thing that took decades. Within 10 years over 50 people were dead, including the Radium Girls, who were crucial to ensuring someone was held accountable!

That's not the only story in store though. Next we dive into the wild tale of Chickie Donohue, the retired marine who decided his buddies fighting in Vietnam deserved a beer. His story is one that you wouldn't believe if it wasn't documented.

  • Ep 21 - The Haunting at the Bootlegger House, Ri Ra's Irish Pub, and Tryon House Apartments
    Mar 27 2025

Back with another episode about haunted places you need to visit!.

The haunted bootlegger house found in the 4th ward of Charlotte NC has a special hideaway closet for their 'spirits' to keep them hidden away during Prohibition. It's even on the market for sale if you can afford to purchase a million dollar home downtown. Its been updated to give a modern feel, but the ghosts of the past are still around turning on water at 3am.

To keep with the theme, our next stop is at Ri Ra's Irish pub. Said to be the second oldest building in Uptown, the bar has a whole cast of entities from little girls writing their ABCs on the brick to strange men with mustaches. Nothing malicious but you might have guests joining you for an Irish fare and a pint of Guiness.

Finally, the recently revamped Tryon House apartment is the sight of one of the largest tragedies in Charlotte history when several people died in the fire that still shows its evidence on the brick. Completely remodeled with below market rent rates, but again, you might have unwanted guests who haven't completely made their way to the other side.

  • Ep. 20 - The Missing Persons Case of Bobby Dunbar & Doppelgängers
    Mar 10 2025

"You look just like someone I know." Have you ever been told that you look like another person or that you have a doppelgänger running around town?

In this week's episode, we take things back to the early 1900s where a young Bobby Dunbar went missing. After months of searching, the Dunbars 'think' they found their missing son a few states away. Turns out that it was never their son at all but none of this was confirmed until well after Bobby had passed away. Who the Dunbars took home was Bruce, the son of a single mother who could not afford to continue to fight the Dunbars in court. Such a sad story that altered families trees forever.

And can you imagine being imprisoned for 17 years for a crime you never committed because the only evidence against you was someone misidentified you in a court of law - no fingerprints or DNA. This happened to a man in Kansas - Richard Jones. Listen in to get the whole story!
