About this listen

Good evening. Tennessee. I'm Michael Nally. That damp, sticky air isn't your imagination. It's the remnants of last night's quarter-inch soaker. And it's lingering like an uninvited guest. We've got a classic Tennessee split today. West Tennessee is already rumbling with thunderstorms, while East Tennessee is bracing for a light show later tonight. Spring officially arrives in just 13 days, but the weather is still serving up March's signature mood swings. Right now. Memphis and Jackson are under the gun with thunderstorms. You've a solid chance of lightning before 8 PM. Tonight, lows hold at 53 degrees—that's 37 degrees warmer than usual. But don't worry. By Sunday afternoon, the storms clear out. You'll hit 69 degrees. And Monday brings 75 and sunny. Nashville, you're in the calm right now, but don't get too comfortable. After midnight, a fresh batch of storms sweeps in, peaking around 4 AM. Lows actually rise overnight to 53 degrees. Then you climb to 68 by Sunday afternoon. The real story is Monday's high of 78 degrees. That's nearly 37 degrees above normal. But hold on. Wednesday's cold front drops temperatures 37 degrees in 24 hours. You'll wake up to 55 degrees on Thursday. That's a whiplash even for Tennessee. Knoxville and Chattanooga, your storms are fashionably late. They arrive after 8 PM with gusts up to 25 miles an hour. Tonight's low is a balmy 61 degrees—that feels like summer. Sunday stays unsettled, but Monday you hit 76 degrees. Then comes the crash. Wednesday's front sends temperatures plummeting to 43 degrees Thursday morning. You might need shorts and a jacket in the same week. Here's your heads-up for the week ahead. Sunday sees storms exiting east with highs in the 70s. Monday is near-record warmth—feels like April. Tuesday stays toasty with more storms. Then a cold front slams the brakes. Highs drop from the 80s to the 50s by Thursday. If you're traveling late tonight, take it slow on I37 degrees and I37 degrees. The rain will make the roads slick. Sunday is your best bet for outdoor plans. West Tennessee dries out by afternoon. And the rest of the state follows by evening. Grab that extra blanket tonight. You'll thank me at 3 A.M. When the temperatures swing. See you tomorrow.
