    Feb 6 2026

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. The folks at Kwikset….a part of Assa Abloy….are out with the Aura Reach smart door lock that puts some of the latest tech into a relatively affordable under two hundred dollar package. Considering it is Matter and Bluetooth compatible and comes from one of the most trusted home security brands, that sounds pretty good. Product Manage Charlie Dougherty …

“The beauty of Matter is that it really simplifies the whole inter-compatibility question. Does this device integrate with this system? With Matter, all you’re looking for is that Matter logo and if you see that on the box or you see the words Matter compatible, you know that it’s going to work with any other Matter device you have in the home.”

Good news for consumers. Learn more at Kwikset.com.

  • Strapsicle designs case-strap for iPad Mini
    Feb 5 2026

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Strapsicle is the name of a company that made a splash on Shark Tank in Australia with clever straps to enable on hand security for an Amazon Kindle. Co-founder Lou Rice serves as CEO…. Her partner Ben is the tinkerer- inventor. And now, she says, they have devised a solution for the iPad Mini…

“Obviously, as you can imagine, they are very expensive pieces of tech. A strap on its own wasn’t going to cut it. So Ben has designed a full case solution that includes straps that pop in and out. And so it’s just another way to make reading more accessible for everyone. Especially people who read on tablets of which, we know, there are millions.”

That should be available this summer. Find the company at Strapsicle.com. Make sure to check out our full interview too.

  • Ford named most iconic American company ever by Time
    Feb 4 2026

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. With companies like Apple, Coca Cola, Walmart and Amazon in the top five, Time has designated Ford as the most iconic company in American history. Ford Heritage Brand Manager Ted Ryan…

“It is amazing, but when you think about it and you read what the criteria were, respected companies, impact on America, impact on culture…they had a list of five different categories, it makes total sense. And then Time begins to spell out the invention of the Model T, which put America on wheels, the assembly line, the five dollar a day wage, helping America as the arsenal of democracy during World War II.”

It can be argued that Ford was key in creating the middle class. Not to mention the Mustang and F series trucks. Find more on the history at FordHeritageVault.com.

  • Avoiding distractions while driving- even more crucial in winter
    Feb 3 2026

Techstination, your destination for gadgets and gear. I’m Fred Fishkin. Snow and icy roads can make driving a challenge during the winter, especially this one in many parts of the country. At State Farm, research director Jon Wey says that is all the more reason to put down phones and focus on the task at hand…

“Trying to hold ourselves more accountable for not giving in to the distractions. For really being intentional about sitting in behind the wheel, putting our phone down in the cupholder and committing to not picking that thing back up again until we get to our destination. That would be a really good place to start. Similarly, not feeling compelled to try to figure out what the latest and greatest thing is on the radio or what’s going on in the Twitterverse to try and understand while I’m driving this vehicle.”

And a reminder that the hours after the Super Bowl can present many of the same dangers as New Year’s Eve….with alcohol adding to the winter road dangers.
