Aunque la obra se basa en una historia real de la Edad Media, los temas que toca siguen siendo dolorosamente vigentes hasta nuestros días. Con típico donaire, temas de tamaña seriedad no son parte de una tragedia ni de un tratado filosófico, sino de una famosa comedia.
