  • The Owl
    Jul 19 2025

Today we look at an animal that has been in nearly every episode but never received it's time in the spotlight. It is my grandmother's favorite animal but it has a mixed reputation in stories. Let's get to know the owl.

  • The Stag and Deer
    Jun 28 2025

I wanted to spotlight the beauty and spiritual majesty of the stag and deer. We have 3 stories today. The first one is a Cherokee legend that spotlights how the stag got his horns. The second story is another Cherokee legend that might be triggering to victims of violence. It isn't graphic but it is a short story of a woman killed in an act of violence that is given powers by a stag to become a spirit protector of women. Our final story is a love story.

  • Common Murres
    Jun 21 2025

While reading the news I saw that Common Murres were facing a high risk of extinction and wanted to pull them into the spotlight. I had to work hard to get a story for them, but I felt they were worth it. I hope you'll enjoy our spotlight on this beautiful bird.

Today's picture was snagged from Oceana.org. I hope they won't mind me borrowing it to draw attention to this beautiful bird.

    Jun 14 2025

Can you believe we have gone this far into the series without talking about the drum? This felt like a dope-slap moment for me, so I had to remedy it fast.

We have two great stories for you today. The first is from the Abenaki people and the second comes from the Ojibwe people and involves a Sioux woman named Tailfeather Woman.
