About this listen

In the year 1492 Christopher Columbus sailed to the Bahamas in search of China, on the Santa Maria.

Columbus sent two Spaniards, Rodrigo de Jerez and Lois de Torres, who spoke Chadic and Arabic, to walk through Indian villages in search of the Emperor of China. Neither men spoke Chinese or any local native languages.

In fact, Columbus and none of his crew had ever been to China or Asia.
