En este tema se muestra en qué consiste la «sabiduría» tal como es presentada en la Biblia. Se trata de tener una visión de conjunto de la literatura sapiencial canónica, encuadrándola en la corriente de pensamiento sapiencial del antiguo Medio Oriente, y de ver hasta qué punto la Biblia asume la sabiduría de los pueblos vecinos de Israel, y qué presenta de propio y específico.
Al mismo tiempo se intenta percibir el desarrollo de la tradición y literatura sapiencial dentro de Israel desde las etapas más antiguas en la época de la monarquía hasta la contemplación de la Sabiduría personificada posterior al destierro.
