Históricamente México ha sido un país que en diversas ocasiones ha otorgado asilo político a refugiados de otros países, no sólo por la cercanía con Estados Unidos sino por su clara política exterior de ayuda a los refugiados. Sin embargo en los últimos años, México ha recibido una cantidad histórica de solicitudes de asilo y esto ha generado grandes desafíos tanto para las instituciones como para la población civil mexicana.
