About this listen
This illustration of Haymitch is by Itsajollyjester and you can see illustrations they did of the other victors here. Warning, they're not so much graphic as they are haunting, because the artist wanted us to see how each victor really looked when they won. https://gethelphomework-wqcgx.ondigitalocean.app/question/the-lucas-critique-argues-that-because-the-way-people-form-expectation-uv2kzwop
This chapter is the one where Haymitch has to get patched up and shoved back onstage with Cesar Flickerman to "celebrate" his "victory". RoShawn and I talk about ownership of the narrative, and the way that can be coopted through altered history, calculated smear campaigns, social media, editing, silencing, and clickbait.
This is a pretty heavy episode, just to warn you all. But it's a heavy chapter! So what can you do.
Thanks so much to you all for listening, and we will see you soon with a new episode!
This version of The Hanging Tree is done by the Danish National Symphony Orchestra and is sung by Andrea Lykke Oehlenschlæger & Diluckshan Jeyaratnam. You can watch the video here! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hrxwS3jukf8
