  • Mindful Muscles: Strengthening the Core of Womanhood
    Jul 14 2025
This is your Strong Women Podcast podcast.

Welcome to the Strong Women Podcast, where we honor the spirit and strength at the heart of womanhood. I’m your host, and today, we’re diving right into a question at the core of our mission: what makes a woman truly strong? More importantly, how can any woman cultivate these qualities—no matter where she is in her journey—through the practice of mindfulness?

Let’s get right to the point. When I think of strong women, women like Malala Yousafzai and Maya Angelou come to mind—figures who have risen beyond adversity with unwavering resilience and purpose. But strength is not just about world-shaping achievements or overcoming the biggest hurdles. It’s rooted in a collection of core qualities: resilience, confidence, empathy, courage, authenticity, adaptability, self-awareness, compassion, and a sense of agency. Each of these qualities is a muscle that grows with mindful intention.

Resilience stands front and center. It’s that inner voice urging you forward every time life knocks you down. But how do you get back up? According to experts in women’s leadership, like Jenni Catron, the answer lies in mindfulness—being present with discomfort, breathing through pain, and learning from every moment. Mindfulness doesn’t erase setbacks, but it gives you the tools to sit with them, acknowledge your emotions, and choose your response.

Alongside resilience is confidence, which is not about arrogance but a grounded, healthy belief in your abilities and worth. The Grit and Grace Project points out that self-assured women have learned to lead themselves, to sit with feedback, and to grow from their blind spots. Mindfulness invites us to notice the inner critic, to pause before reacting, and to affirm our value, even when doubt creeps in.

Empathy and compassion are equally vital. Mindfulness teaches us to listen deeply—not just to the world, but to ourselves—making space for our needs and those of others. This creates real, trust-based connections, the kind of relationships that empower and sustain us. I love how Kate Johnson, meditation teacher and activist, describes mindfulness as a foundation for building bridges across differences, fostering self-examination and deep dialogue from a place of awareness.

Then there’s authenticity and courage—showing up as your true self, even when the world expects you to play small. Mindfulness helps us quiet the external noise, tune into our inner values, and act from that truest part of ourselves. Adaptability rounds out the list, and it too is developed through mindfulness. By anchoring us in the present, mindfulness allows us to release anxieties about the future, letting us pivot with grace instead of fear.

Finally, self-awareness is the glue holding it all together. Mindfulness practices like meditation, body scans, or even mindful movement such as yoga nurture this self-awareness, giving us clarity about who we are, what we want, and how we want to respond to life’s challenges.

When you commit to mindfulness, you are committing to your own empowerment. You’re saying yes to resilience, confidence, empathy, courage, authenticity, adaptability, compassion, and agency—not as distant ideals, but as qualities you can grow, day by day.

  • Mindful Strength: Nurturing the Six Pillars of Female Empowerment
    Jul 13 2025
This is your Strong Women Podcast podcast.

Welcome back to the Strong Women Podcast. I’m Sarah, and today, I want you to picture a room filled with women—each unique, each powerful in her own way. What do they share? It’s not just their achievements or job titles—it’s the core qualities that truly define a strong woman and the ways these can be cultivated through mindfulness.

Resilience stands at the heart of what it means to be a strong woman. Think of Malala Yousafzai and Maya Angelou—women who have transformed adversity into purpose. Resilience isn’t something you’re born with; it’s grown by facing challenges mindfully, staying present during discomfort, and drawing lessons from every hardship. Mindfulness invites us to recognize pain or fear without letting it write our story. When we breathe through the tough moments and lean into what we’re feeling, we build that muscle of bouncing back—not just surviving, but thriving.

Confidence is another pillar. It’s that steady belief in our own worth and abilities, even when the world gets loud with doubt. Mindfulness can help us recognize our inner critic, challenge negative self-talk, and replace it with self-acceptance. This isn’t about arrogance—it’s about being rooted in who we are and the journey we’ve taken.

Empathy flows from genuine connection, and it’s what empowers us to lift others as we rise. Mindfulness deepens empathy by keeping us tuned in—to our own emotions and to the experiences of those around us. When we’re fully present in conversation, we create space for true understanding and compassion, both for ourselves and for others.

Courage—stepping up, speaking out, and persisting against the odds—is nurtured by mindful reflection. Instead of reacting impulsively or out of fear, mindfulness helps us clarify our values and move forward intentionally, even when it’s uncomfortable. It creates room for us to act from our deepest convictions, not just from habit or external pressure.

Authenticity is all about honoring our true selves. Women like Brené Brown remind us that vulnerability is strength. Mindfulness supports authenticity by encouraging self-awareness—observing our thoughts and feelings, respecting our boundaries, and making choices that align with our heart. It gives us permission to show up as we are, not as we’re told to be.

Adaptability rounds out our list—because life is unpredictable, and strong women don’t just endure change, they grow through it. Mindful practices like meditation and body scans teach us to ground ourselves in the present, navigate stress, and remain flexible when plans shift. This translates to greater ease with change and a willingness to pivot when life demands it.

These qualities—resilience, confidence, empathy, courage, authenticity, and adaptability—aren’t just traits, they’re skills. Mindfulness is a practical tool that helps us nurture each one, day by day. By staying present, we free ourselves from regrets of the past and worries of the future. We become stronger, kinder, and more empowered.

  • Mindful Muscle: Flexing Your Inner Strength
    Jul 12 2025
This is your Strong Women Podcast podcast.

Welcome back to the Strong Women Podcast. Today, I want to get straight to the core: what truly defines a strong woman, and how can mindfulness empower you to nurture these qualities in your everyday life?

A strong woman is often described as resilient, confident, empathetic, courageous, authentic, self-aware, and adaptable. Let’s break each of those down, because they’re not just buzzwords—they are strengths that can be developed through intention and, yes, mindfulness.

Resilience is the unyielding spirit to get back up after setbacks, to learn from challenges, and to keep moving forward. It’s not inborn—it’s cultivated. When you practice mindfulness, you learn how to pause and breathe, gaining the space to reflect instead of react. This moment of pause is powerful. It lets you witness your own thoughts and feelings without judgment, turning obstacles into stepping stones for growth, as highlighted by Sarah Stonestreet on this very show.

Confidence is another pillar. It’s not just about being loud or never doubting yourself. True confidence comes from knowing your value, honoring your abilities, and having the self-trust to stand in your power. Mindfulness builds this self-trust by encouraging you to observe and accept yourself—flaws and all—right where you are. Kate Johnson, a renowned meditation and movement teacher, emphasizes this connection, teaching that mindfulness nurtures the self-acceptance needed for real, lasting confidence.

Empathy, the ability to connect with and uplift others, grows stronger when you’re present. Mindfulness grounds you in the moment, so you can listen deeply to those around you. You stop projecting your own worries and truly hear another person’s experience. This kind of empathic engagement is transformative—it breaks down barriers, increases connection, and creates more compassionate communities.

Courage isn’t always bravery on a grand stage. Sometimes, it’s as subtle as persisting when quitting looks easier, or as bold as speaking up for what’s right. When you’re mindful, you notice fear but aren’t ruled by it. You can acknowledge discomfort, allow it to pass, and take action anyway.

Authenticity means living true to your values and showing up as your real self, regardless of external pressure. Mindfulness supports authenticity by helping you recognize your patterns, break free from people-pleasing, and act from a place of integrity. As leadership expert Jenni Catron shares, self-awareness is key—knowing who you are is the foundation for authentic living.

And adaptability, that essential ability to pivot as life changes, is fostered in mindfulness practice. You become less rigid, more open to change, and able to see new opportunities even in uncertainty.

So, how do we actually develop these qualities? Start with conscious breathing. Try a few minutes of meditation daily, focusing on the sensations in your body or the rhythm of your breath. Check in with yourself—ask, What am I feeling? What do I need? Notice without judgment. Over time, these small mindful pauses create the space for resilience, confidence, empathy, courage, authenticity, and adaptability to grow.
