Nearly all MS patients will experience bladder symptoms after 10 years, 61% reports incompletely bladder emptying according to research studies. Neural circuits extending from the cerebral cortex to the bladder maintain urinary continence and allow voiding when it is socially appropriate. Injuries to certain brain regions like MS lesions produce a specific disruption known as urge, incontinence and/or retention.

In this episode my guest is highly experienced and skilled MS nurse Ruth Stross. Ruth is Head of Nursing at Neurology Academy and Epsom and St Helier University Hospitals NHS Trust. Ruth is passionate about improving the care of people with a long-term neurological condition and has worked as a specialist nurse in Multiple Sclerosis, Motor Neurone disease, Parkinson‘s and Movement Disorders (MD).
