As the gentle waves sway the coral, Grandpa Reef begins telling stories about how the reef began long, long ago — and Manny learns that coral reefs are not just rocks, but living animals that grow slowly over many years and protect countless ocean creatures.

One bright morning near the coral reef, Manny the Octopus and his friends were playing in the clear blue water when some speedy reef fish started bragging about how fast they could swim. Curious and excited, Manny decides to join the race — and along the way he discovers that octopuses have a special way of swimming called jet propulsion, even though they usually prefer crawling along the ocean floor.

While exploring near the coral reef, Manny discovers a strange shell that looks ordinary… but something about it feels like a puzzle. When he realizes a little fish is trapped inside-a clever shell trap left behind by humans, Manny must use his smart octopus brain to solve the mystery and set the friend free
