About this listen

Good afternoon. Southern California. I'm Matt Mullins. Step outside and those Santa Ana winds are still punching through. Northeast gusts are hitting 30 miles an hour across Los Angeles, the Inland Empire. And down the San Diego coast. The Wind Advisory runs until 5 P.M. This afternoon for the mountains and inland valleys. But the real story today? The heat. Los Angeles climbs to 90 degrees this afternoon — that's 50 degrees above normal for early March. San Diego hits 86. The Inland Empire tops out at 85. A Heat Advisory is active until 6 P.M. For LA County's coastal zones and valleys. If you're outside today, stay hydrated and seek shade during peak afternoon hours. Tonight brings a dramatic flip. Winds calm after sunset. And a weak low pressure system off Baja California pushes clouds northward. San Diego County has a slight chance of light rain showers late tonight into Monday morning — most areas might see a few hundredths of an inch at best. Monday's cooler. That quick shift from offshore to onshore flow drops LA to 72 degrees. San Diego reaches 69. The Inland Empire settles at 76. Some morning marine layer clouds are possible along the coast. Tuesday stays mild with more clouds and a stronger sea breeze. Highs near 70 across LA and San Diego, 73 in the Inland Empire. Then the heat returns. High pressure builds Wednesday and anchors over us through the weekend. By Thursday and Friday. Here comes upper 80s to near 90 across the board. The Inland Empire could push 96 on Thursday — well above normal for mid-March. Dry conditions continue through at least next weekend. No rain in sight. If you're enjoying these daily updates, a quick rating goes a long way. See you this evening.
