 Good morning. South Dakota. I'm Michael Nally. Spring just kicked winter to the curb. We're talking near-record warmth today, folks — upper 60s to low 70s statewide. That's 21 degrees to 20 degrees warmer than we'd expect for early March. But here's the catch. West winds are going to howl all afternoon, gusting to 30 miles an hour across most areas and hitting 50 out in the northwest. A Wind Advisory runs until 6 P.M. Up there. Sioux Falls hits 70 by late afternoon. Pierre reaches 71. Out in Rapid City, you peak near 73 around 4 P.M. Before the slide begins. Now combine that warmth with bone-dry air and those gusty winds. And you've got very high grassland fire danger anywhere snow hasn't stuck around. Tonight? Total flip. A cold front drops south from North Dakota and temperatures crash. Lows fall to the mid to upper 30s statewide. Winds shift and ease overnight. Monday stays pleasant — sunshine and highs in the upper 50s to mid 60s. A bit cooler than today, but still nice. Monday night turns mostly cloudy as our next system rolls in. Here's your week ahead. Tuesday brings increasing clouds and a chance of rain and snow, especially Tuesday night. Western areas could see accumulation, likely under half an inch. Highs only reach the low to mid 40s. Wednesday starts with lingering snow before clearing out. Highs climb back to the mid 40s. Thursday rebounds nicely — partly sunny and mid to upper 60s, though breezy again. Another system arrives late week with chances for rain and snow Friday into Saturday. Temperatures cool back to the 40s. Enjoy the warmth today, but keep an eye on those winds if you're heading out. See you this afternoon.
