    Jan 8 2026

What is a Pukwudgie? Are Pukwudgies real? What do they want? And why do so many eerie encounters trace back to the haunted woods of Massachusetts? What's the Pukwudgie history?Pukwudgies are among the most mysterious and unsettling figures in New England folklore, rooted deeply in Native American legends of the Northeast. Described as small, human‑like beings with supernatural abilities, pukwudgies are said to inhabit forests, swamps, and rocky landscapes throughout Massachusetts and the greater New England region. This episode explores the darker aspects of pukwudgie lore, including their behavior, origins, and reported encounters, drawing from historical accounts, Wampanoag mythology, and regional oral traditions. From trickster spirits to dangerous forest entities, pukwudgies blur the line between folklore and the unexplained, offering a fascinating glimpse into one of America’s most enduring cryptid legends. The origins and legends of these mischievous cryptids, chilling eyewitness accounts, and how Pukwudgies fit into broader haunted New EnglandDive into the wild, terrifying world of New England’s most chaotic cryptid: the Pukwudgie. This video explores the full lore behind these mischievous, magical, and downright dangerous creatures from Wampanoag, Algonquin, Abenaki, Mohican, and Great Lakes traditions.I break down the different regional versions of Pukwudgies, from harmless tricksters to the vicious, child‑stealing terrors of the Bridgewater Triangle and Freetown State Forest. You’ll learn their appearance, magical abilities, shapeshifting powers, and the dark origin story involving Maushop, Granny Squanit, and a whole lot of divine family drama.Plus, I cover modern encounters, including the famous Bill Russo sighting, Joan’s recurring bedroom visitor, and paranormal investigator Tim’s run‑ins with both glowing orbs and a very annoyed forest creature.Whether you're a folklore fanatic, cryptid hunter, or just love spooky stories and scary creatures, you're going to have a good time!Picture Yourself Ghost Hunting: https://www.amazon.com/Picture-Yourself-Hunting-Christopher-Balzano/dp/1598634984Join my Patreon for more haunted lore, ghost stories, and cryptid deep-dives from Slightly Odd America: https://patreon.com/slightlyoddfitchburgBuy My Book: https://a.co/d/0IoHbKgPuk Life Gear: https://www.teepublic.com/slightly-odd-americaLike and Subscribe: YouTube.com/@slightlyoddamericaFollow the Podcast: https://open.spotify.com/show/3MAE0aAcKjiqOGMMJL5oYIJoin us on Facebook: Facebook.com/thenewslightlyoddfitchburgGet more odd and haunted history: https://www.SlightlyOddFitchburg.blogspot.comSurrounded by Hayden Folker | https://soundcloud.com/hayden-folkerMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comCreative Commons / Attribution 3.0 Unported License (CC BY 3.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.en_USThe Travelling Symphony by Savfk | https://www.youtube.com/savfkmusicMusic promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comCreative Commons / Attribution 4.0 International (CC BY 4.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/CURSE by Mehul ShaRma | https://www.instagram.com/mehul_sharmaofficial/Music promoted by https://www.free-stock-music.comCreative Commons / Attribution 3.0 Unported License (CC BY 3.0)https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/3.0/deed.en_US
