About this listen

Sequel Season #1 - “The way I see it, someone’s out to make a sequel. You know, cash in on all the movie murder hoopla. So it’s our job to observe the rules of the sequel.”

We’re back! Silver Screen Podcast (regular flavour) returns for 2026 and — well — do you like scary movies? I sure hope so. What’s your favourite scary movie? If you said Showgirls, then you’ll be right at home with this deep-dive review of slasher sequel Scream 2. We’re covering this film for two reasons: firstly, to tie in with the imminent release of Scream 7, and secondly to serve as a soft launch for our brand-new Silver Screen “Sequel Season.” This is essentially our pilot, but if all goes well we’ll be back later in the year to take a closer look at even more film follow-ups. Hopefully you’ll stick with us — but for now, it’s back to Windsor College… Regular host and podcast supremo Michael (or should that be Mickey?) is joined by two great guests to analyse the carnage candy. First up is returning guest — and first-time viewer — Tobi. We’re also joined by first-time guest Kevin, fellow Scream aficionado and horror podcaster. Together, our terrifying trio discuss their first impressions of the film, its personal and cultural legacy, what works (and what doesn’t) in the writing and post-modern commentary, Wes Craven’s masterful directing touch, and how this sequel stacks up against the iconic original. We also play detective along with the movie itself, diving into behind-the-scenes drama including spoiler leaks, script rewrites, and rushed schedules. Along the way we discuss the returning and new cast, our favourite characterisations, some iconic (and criminally underused) guest cameos, the gore factor, and much more. As always, we conclude with audience thoughts, a brief round-up of critical response, and our own conclusions and scores. So grab your popcorn, cover your ears if you go to the bathroom, pause your debates about James Cameron sequels, and strap in as we take another stab at analysing this killer franchise.

"It's bullshit generalization. Many sequels have surpassed their originals."
