Salomè è stata una principessa giudaica, contemporanea di Gesù. Attorno alla sua figura la storia di confonde con la leggenda. Dai Vangeli sappiamo che Salomè fu responsabile della decapitazione e del martirio di Giovanni Battista: la giovane, infatti, chiese la testa del Santo su un piatto d'argento, come ricompensa per un ballo sensuale concesso al suo patrigno, il re Erode Antipa, che si era invaghito di lei. Un ballo che ha attraversato i secoli e affascinato e sedotto moltissimi scrittori, pittori e compositori di tutte le epoche.
