 This week, Rhiannon reads “The Water Mother”, a Chinese folk tale. Listeners may recognize a particular noodly children’s story of the same type (ATU 565). We explore the role of folklore in the development of cultural identity, using Chinese and Finnish stories as our primary examples, and then let the science behind artesian springs send us on a journey through human use of water, from religion to relaxation.
