We're back with the first installment of a somewhat regular subseries focusing on the bridge between cinema and wrestling. And in true Working Stiffs fashion, we had to open the box up with an exploration of Japan and the puro stars that found their way onto the silver screen.
We watched 4 movies for the main focus. We start with a quick remembrance of Antonio Inoki and his many incarnations in tv before going into Rikidozan: A Hero Extraordinaire. Then we discuss the absurdity of life through the lens of Minoru Kawasaki by way of Akira Nogami being the legit second best option to a squid in The Calamari Wrestler (46:34) and literally everyone wanting to get in Kota Ibushi's flawless briefs in Daikaiju Mono (58:35). We close with thoughts on the rare gem that is My Dad Is A Heel Wrestler (1:11:02) starring Tanahashi, proving you're never TOO young to get wised up to wrestling.
