About this listen
In this episode we begin with an exploration of some early Irish vocal traditions:
Caoineadh ("Keening") - a traditional form of vocal lament for the dead in the Gaelic Celtic tradition. Sean-nós ("SHAN-ohss") - traditional Irish vocal music usually performed in the Irish/Gaelic language.
In the second half of the program, we explore the impact of John & Alan Lomax with defining the modern idea of what is American folk music, and for promoting and bringing to prominence folks such as Muddy Waters and Sister Rosetta who were such a big influence on the British invasion.
