About this listen

On this episode of the CVCS Baseball Podcast, head coach Clemente Bonilla talks to Seth Etherton, a former MLB starting pitcher and the current pitching coach for the USC Trojans.

Seth pitched at Dana Hills High School in Dana Point, California before pitching for the University of Southern California. Seth led the Trojans to a College World Series title in 1998 with 13 wins and a 3.23 ERA, with 182 strikeouts (a Pac-10 and USC record at the time) and just 29 walks. In addition to being named the 1998 NCAA Player of the Year, Etherton was also named a first-team All-American and the Pac-10 Pitcher of the Year.

Seth was drafted in the 1st round of the 1998 MLB draft by the Anaheim Angels (18th overall). He made his Major League debut in 2000 and spent parts of four seasons in the Major Leagues with the Angels, Reds, Athletics, and Royals. In his MLB career, Seth made 23 MLB starts with a career 9-7 record.

After a few seasons pitching in the KBO (Korea), independent leagues, and Minor Leagues, he began coaching in 2013, eventually making his way back to become the pitching coach at USC.
