  • Welcome to Rock Your Shine: After you’ve been cracked wide open. My name is Susan E. Casey, MSW, MFA. I’m an author, podcast co-host, psychic intuitive mental health therapist, and grief and loss coach. I’ve learned through my experience and professional work with clients that when a heartbreaking event cracks us wide open the way it did for me when my younger brother Rocky died in 2014, it offers us the opportunity to experience our inner light in a more profound and life-changing way. Throughout the past 2.5 years, I've focused solely on grief and loss, and I hope you’ll find those episodes helpful if you’re on your own grief and loss journey. In January 2024, I partnered with my colleague and spiritual teacher, Valerie Moon, to create a new live show, Illumi-Nation, to field questions and respond to life struggles in real time. Valerie and I will help to guide individuals on a journey of self-discovery, helping them break free from the amnesia that accompanies our earthly experience. In this episode, Susan and Valerie sit down with Travis Preston to discuss the power of firewalking. Firewalking is a practice in which individuals walk barefoot across a bed of hot coals or stones without sustaining burns or injuries. It's often associated with various cultural and spiritual traditions, including religious rituals and personal growth seminars. The practice is usually conducted under the guidance of experienced facilitators who prepare participants both mentally and physically. As for the benefits attributed to firewalking, they are primarily psychological and symbolic in nature: Overcoming fear: Firewalking is often seen as a powerful metaphor for facing and conquering one's fears. By walking across the hot coals, participants confront their fear of fire and learn to trust themselves and their abilities to overcome obstacles. Building confidence: Successfully completing a firewalk can boost self-confidence and self-esteem. It demonstrates to participants that they are capable of accomplishing seemingly impossible tasks with the right mindset and preparation. Mindfulness and focus: Walking across hot coals requires intense concentration and mindfulness. Participants must focus their attention entirely on the present moment, which can help cultivate mindfulness and reduce stress. Personal empowerment: Firewalking is sometimes used as a tool for personal empowerment and transformation. Cultural and spiritual significance: In some cultures, firewalking is a sacred ritual with spiritual significance.
