About this listen

This week on Ordinary Observations Jack is joined by long time friend of the show, Bosnian affairs correspondent, and K103 Chairperson, Elvira Hodzic! We have a long, winding discussion about the joys of large roadside attractions, built by enterprising folks trying to encourage ordinary passers by to stay a little longer in their small towns. We start off with a low pass over the Big Chicken in Marietta, Georgia. An enormous local landmark which somehow acts as both KFC advertisement and an unofficial waypoint to commercial pilots flying overhead. Next up, Elvira discusses the history of the ICAR Canned Beef Monument in Sarajevo. Perhaps a genuine display of gratitude, perhaps a sarcastic dig at the quality of 'aid' sent to Bosnia by the UN, hard to say for sure. A little closer to home, Jack admires the Mjölbypotäten, a giant potato placed in a roundabout near the Swedish town of Mjölby. It's good. Then we wrap it all up with a quick fire collection of large stuff in Casey, Illinois, an otherwise forgettable town famous for having no less than 12 of the world's largest things. All this and a handful of laughs this week on Ordinary Observations!
