• Salvation in the Name Of - Jesus - 2025 - Acts - To the Ends of the Earth
    Sep 21 2025
In this passage Peter and John miraculously heal a man who was lame in his legs his entire life. This event will be important for the next couple of weeks in Acts as we see Peter’s sermon that follows, the people’s response, and the response of the religious leaders. Peter will show us this week that the miracle was done in the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth. Peter did not heal this man with his own powers, but it came about by the name of Jesus. Peter points out to us that it is by faith in the name of Jesus that people are healed and saved. In fact, all the physical miracles in the Bible want to point us toward God’s ability to heal us spiritually. Salvation is only available through faith in the name of Jesus. It is one thing to know about Jesus, and another to put your faith in his name to save you. I am excited to walk through this passage tomorrow and consider Salvation in the Name Of – Jesus.

  • Vision Sunday 2025 - 2025 - Acts - To the Ends of the Earth
    Sep 14 2025
In this passage we have a glimpse of the early church’s life together as they sought to worship God and advance the Gospel. With the coming of the Holy Spirit the common activities of the new church led to Uncommon Results. People were saved, there was love for one another that overflowed in generosity, and God was worshipped. These results came about as body of Christ focused on gathering together around the teaching of the apostles, fellowship, communion, and prayer. The formula is not any different today. If we will be faithful to do what God has called us to do as spirit-empowered believers, he will do great things in us and in our world.

  • Call on the Name of the Lord and Be Saved - 2025 - Acts - To the Ends of the Earth
    Sep 7 2025
As we gather for worship we will continue our study in Acts and look at Peter’s Pentecost Sermon in Acts 2:14-41. This is one of the better sermon’s in the Bible that has lots to teach us. Peter responds to the crowds that accused him and the apostles of being drunk for speaking in other languages, empowered by the Spirit, with his sermon. He wants the crowds to see that the coming of the Spirit is a miracle of God and the fulfilment of what he promised hundreds of years ago by the Prophets. In response to what God has done through Christ, the people should repent and be baptized as followers of Jesus and enter the kingdom of God that has broken into the world. In like fashion, we will work through the gospel as Peter presents it and then celebrate three baptisms together as a church!

  • What Do We Do Now? - 2025 - Acts - To the Ends of the Earth
    Aug 24 2025
This is an interesting passage that tells us what the apostles and other believers did after Jesus ascended to heaven, but the Holy Spirit had not yet come. Furthermore, they were sorting through the feelings of hurt that they likely felt because of Judas’ betrayal. The gathered believers might have asked the question, ‘What do we do now?’ Whether you find yourself on a mountain top with God or in a valley with you your faith, tomorrow’s passage answers our question as we see what the gathering of believers did to sort out their situation and wait on God’s promise of the Holy Spirit. The believers gathered together, sought the Lord in prayer and in his word, they trusted God’s sovereign plan, and they continued to focus on the mission of spreading the Gospel around the world. In essence, they persevered in faith. If you are asking yourself the question, ‘What do I do now?”, because of hurt you have experienced in church or in life, or just because you have come to the end of a season of life, let’s learn from the example of the believers in Acts 1:12-26.

  • Spirt Empowered Witnesses - 2025 - Acts - To the Ends of the Earth
    Aug 17 2025
Acts is a great book that tells us about all that Jesus did and continues to do through his spirit empowered followers to be witnesses for the Gospel in the world. As followers of Jesus today he has also called us to be his witnesses to the ends of the Earth. Tomorrow as we consider Acts 1:1-11, think for a moment that maybe why God has you were you are is so that he can spread the Gospel to your corner of the world through you.

  • Humility that Leads to Exaltation - 2025 - Firm in the Faith: 1 Peter
    Aug 10 2025
In a world that is caught up in appearances, strength, power, and beauty, Peter urges something to us that is counterintuitive. He bases this way of living on Christ himself. The king of the universe who humbled himself in obedience to the Father as he came to serve us in humility. And the result? Jesus was exalted to heaven and the right hand of God. And now Peter tells us if you want share in Christ’s exaltation, then humble yourself to God’s will for your life. He then proceeds to talk about humble church leadership, humble Christian living, and finally exhorts us to stand Firm in the Faith.

  • Entrust Your Soul To God - 2025 - Firm in the Faith: 1 Peter
    Aug 3 2025
You know our lives are pretty good here in Salt Lake City, but this week Peter is going to remind us that sometimes “fiery trials” come on us as believers from out of nowhere. Peter doesn’t want us to think these trials strange, but rather be prepared to face them with faith and trust in God. This week we will continue in our 1 Peter series, Firm in the Faith, looking at 1 Peter 4:12-19 which provides a pathway forward in the midst of the suffering we will face. Peter will tell us to rejoice, do good, and entrust our souls to God – knowing that the suffering is in God’s hands, it will refine us, God will be with us, and ultimately there will be life and joy to be had as a follower of Jesus. No matter what you may be facing, God wants to walk with you and see you through it. Let’s entrust ourselves to him.
