About this listen

Ricky Thompson who born and raised in Jackson, Mississippi, soon found himself discovering a new home which was not in his best interest. This change was something he did not expect, but was bound to happen.

Ricky expresses in today’s episode the traumatic effects that moving had on him. Growing up, Ricky was surrounded around loving people and although he had not had many friends growing up, he always found himself making someone laugh. He was the typical class clown, creating an environment where everyone could be happy. One day, Ricky and his mom had to leave Mississippi because of an unexpected loss that tragically took place in 2005. During this time, there was a bad Hurricane, and it did indeed destroy their home.

Ricky expresses that after the move, he felt alone, he felt like his mom didn’t care how he felt. In this episode we go through time and we dissect the effects of childhood trauma and how it impacts us as adults. Iesha and Ricky discuss how they use different approaches to cope with their grief. We explore different perspectives on what parents go through and young people as it relates to financial barriers and emotional challenges.
