Set in an atmosphere of secrets, moonshine, and mysterious murders, the narrative revolves around Jasper Turner, a solitary man known for his moonshining skills, who becomes a suspect when Elias Reynolds, another local with an interest in Jasper's operations, is found dead. As Sheriff Larkin investigates the murder, a web of deceit within the town begins to unravel, leading to the revelation that Jasper killed Elias to protect his moonshining business.
