वृंदावन में शरद पूर्णिमा की रात थी। आकाश में पूर्ण चंद्र अपनी सोलह कलाओं के साथ चमक रहा था, और उसकी शीतल चाँदनी यमुना के शांत जल पर पड़कर उसे और भी चमका रही थी। हवा में कुमुदिनी और रातरानी की मदहोश करने वाली सुगंध तैर रही थी। ऐसा लगता था मानो प्रकृति स्वयं किसी दिव्य आयोजन के लिए तैयार हो रही हो।

इसी अद्भुत वातावरण में, भगवान श्रीकृष्ण ने अपनी मधुर वंशी उठाई और उस पर ऐसी मोहक धुन छेड़ी कि पूरे ब्रह्मांड में उसका संगीत गूँज उठा। उस वंशी की तान ऐसी थी कि वह सिर्फ कानों से नहीं, आत्मा से सुनी जा सकती थी।
