La muerte del expresidente de Uruguay, José 'Pepe' Mujica, ha supuesto un repaso a su larga trayectoria política y militante. Una parte importante de ésta fue su pertenencia al grupo guerrillero del Movimiento de Liberación Nacional - Tupamaros durante la década de los 60 e inicios de los 70. Su militancia lo llevó a ser apresado durante 12 años por la dictadura uruguaya, sufriendo aislamiento y torturas. Una parte fundamental de su vida que ayuda a comprender su filosofía política.
