About this listen

Good afternoon. Puerto Rico. I'm Matt Mullins. Those trade winds are cranking today. Buck Island clocked gusts at 41 miles an hour overnight. Ponce hit 37. That breeze isn't letting up — expect winds between 15 and 25 miles an hour through midweek, with gusts pushing 30 to 40. Secure anything loose outside before it takes flight. Metro San Juan reaches 81 degrees this afternoon with just isolated showers — only a 20 percent chance. East winds around 18 miles an hour keep things breezy. Tonight drops to 75 with scattered showers becoming more likely. Tomorrow brings more of the same: 81 degrees with that steady east wind and scattered showers. Southern Puerto Rico runs hotter. You'll hit 88 this afternoon before cooling to 82 later. Isolated showers possible, but those wind gusts — up to 30 miles an hour — are the real story. Tonight falls to 72 with partly cloudy skies. Monday climbs to 89 with a 30 percent chance of scattered showers. Western Puerto Rico faces the wettest conditions today. A 60 percent chance of rain showers this afternoon. Could see a tenth to quarter inch. High near 86 before dropping to 80. Tonight clears out nicely — down to 69. Monday brings another round: 85 degrees with a 60 percent chance of showers after 9 A.M. Could see a quarter to half inch of rain. In Looking ahead, tuesday ramps up the action with showers and thunderstorms, especially across western sections. Wednesday stays active with a 60 to 70 percent chance of showers. By Friday and Saturday, we settle back into typical trade wind patterns. In One critical note, high rip current risk continues through Monday morning for north and east-facing beaches. Seas running 7 to 9 feet offshore. Stay out of the water if you're not an experienced swimmer. See you this evening.
