  • Sound like a native
    Mar 14 2024

If you've reached level B2 or C1 English, your pronunciation will probably be good. But there are still things that you might be able to improve, to sound more like a native speaker.

You can use sentence stress, intonation and connected speech to add more meaning and to speak faster. This podcast contains examples of how we use these features to speak more fluidly.

Please read the transcript as you listen; it contains more notes and some exercises.

    Feb 22 2024

    Lenth 23 minutes

English pronunciation is not easy. With 26 letters, 44 sounds and not many rules.

This podcast is a short list of the problems English students have, and some things that might help. If you have lots of problems, you might want to find a specialist language coach, or a speech therapist, but normal problems will improve as you practise. This advice has helped my students.

You don’t need to listen to it all - jump to the part you need:

PART ONE - You can’t make some of the English sounds. (audio: 1.52)

PART TWO - You don’t sound right - you need to listen and speak more. (audio: 5.44)

PART THREE - when you read a new word, you don’t know how to say it. (audio: 8.02)

Please read the transcript (especially for part three)
