The more I think about it, the more I understand that Pocket Girl started long before I began dating terrible men, flailing in my artistic career, or smacked hard into the wall of sexism. I was raised to not have a self. Gas-lit into believing the problem was me, and not the horrendous, dysfunctional, misogynist, abusive bullshit, I was marinated in. Pocket Girl Podcast: Episode 6 ISBN: 978-1-926758-31-2 Resources: Pete Walker is not only a survivor of CPTSD, but also a therapist. His book Complex PTSD: From Surviving to Thriving is a must read and offers so much hope.Beauty After Bruises is one of the very few sites dedicated to CPTSD awareness and can help connect you to therapists and resources.Shahida Arabi: Her book Power: Surviving and Thriving After Narcissistic Abuse was instrumental in helping me with some breakthroughs last year. The Body Keeps Score by Bessel van der Kolk. Not CPTSD specific, but tons of relevant and helpful information.

There's more than one way to feel alone. It's not just about being the only one in a room. Vapid, life sucking relationships and friendships don't count as real human connection. There's some shit so egregious happening right now…which has eclipsed the fear of speaking up. I found this to be true, time and time again throughout my life, that it's only when the pain of not saying anything surpasses the fear of doing so, that I can. I've spent way too long trying to morph myself into someone I wasn't, so other people would like me. Litany of passive aggressive disasters behind me, I vowed to do the only thing I can and ever truly do well; be myself. But as it turns out, a lot of people, most in fact, don't resonate with that. I suppose I should look at this with a positive attitude. It does indeed save me a lot of time going out with dudes with whom it would never work anyway. Pocket Girl Podcast: Episode 3 ISBN: 978-1-926758-15-2  Show Notes:Pocket Girl Podcast: Match.conYou're hot on TV. Hey hot stuff. An interesting summer, Mrs. Robinson. Tattoos and purple hair. I think women, and anyone who has ever presented as female for that matter, know all too well how it feels to be told which pockets you will, and will not, inhabit. And frankly, I’m simply tired of keeping myself in one. Alexandra Blatt Pocket Girl Podcast: Episode 1 ISBN: 978-1-926758-13-8  Show Notes:Pocket Girl Podcast: Burning the Barn.
