Ever wondered what it’s like to take on one of the UK’s toughest off-road races with a bunch of mates, ankle-deep in mud, and still come back for more?

In this episode of Plumstead Runners Story, I take you back to 1993, an unforgettable year of wild races, club growth, and unexpected friendships. From our trip to Berlin and the warm hospitality of the Pegasus Runners, to welcoming our first female member and the arrival of four more legends, it was a year of big changes and bigger laughs.

You’ll hear the hilarious and chaotic tale of our very first Grizzly race in South Devon, a brutal 15-mile mudfest that kicked off a club tradition lasting over 30 years. Expect tales of lost trainers, practical jokes, legendary climbs like the Stairway to Heaven, and lessons learned the hard way (including a running tip you won’t forget).

Whether you’re a past or present Plum, or just love a good running story, this episode is packed with memories, camaraderie, and the kind of muddy madness only runners would understand.

    Feb 15 2025

What’s it like to run a marathon in a city where history is everywhere you look?

This episode takes you on a journey to 1992, when the club received a once-in-a-lifetime invitation to run in Berlin as part of a cultural exchange. From the vibrant international breakfast run at the Olympic Stadium to the surprising East-West contrast of Berlin, this experience became one of the club’s most memorable adventures.

You’ll hear how we bonded with runners from Berlin’s Pegasus Running Club, forming friendships that spanned decades and marathon finish lines. There’s laughter, unexpected moments (like introducing a German audience to a conker fight), and heartfelt reflections on the special connection between the two clubs.

Join me for this nostalgic trip down memory lane and discover how running can bring people together across borders.
