The Penn State Nittany Lions football team fell to the number-one-ranked Ohio State on Saturday. It's the fifth loss in a row for the Lions, who are now 3-5 and winless in Big Ten play. Interim head coach Terry Smith deployed new ideas on offense and defense after the team's bye week, but it wasn't enough to help the team overcome the highly talented Buckeyes. Penn State drops its fifth straight game

Despite the loss, Penn State went down swinging. In a battle of two teams determined to play methodical football, the Lions matched the Buckeyes in the first half. Despite uneven play to start the game, the offense put together a 15-play 75-yard drive that took up nearly eight minutes of game time in the second quarter before a Nick Singleton touchdown brought the game within three points.

From there, it was a battle of big-play moments where the Penn State defense once again failed to sack the quarterback on third down, and Ohio State passer Julian Sayin scrambled for a first down on third and five. Soon after, he tossed a 45-yard touchdown to Carnell Tate to extend the lead by seven.

Things looked bleak with four minutes left in the first half as Penn State punted on the following drive, giving Ohio State the chance to double-dip before halftime. However, CJ Donaldson fumbled the ball and Chaz Coleman picked it up, returning it to the 13-yard line. Penn State then punched the ball in to score before halftime.

However, Ohio State made adjustments after halftime, and the Buckeyes' offense was just too much for the Penn State defense. The Buckeyes compiled three plays of 50-plus yards on three straight drives to blow the game open and get the runaway win.
